Sprouted Sprinkle Cookies

A soft, chewy sugar cookie, perfect for every occasion!

These sprouted sprinkle cookies are a certified crowd pleaser! Here, we’ve made a Halloween version (how fun are the candy eyeballs?!) but you can use any colour sprinkles for any occasion. Birthday, rainbow, red & green or even the colours of your favourite sports team – the possibilities are endless! The base is a soft and chewy sugar cookie, so they are as delicious as they are cute. They are quick to whip up with simple pantry ingredients and the dough freezes beautifully if you want to get a head start on baking for any holiday.

ingredient tips & substitutes

  • Butter: Be sure the butter is room temperature or it will not cream with the sugar properly. You should be able to easily make an indent with your finger. These can also be made with plant based butter.
  • Egg: we haven’t tried this recipe with an egg substitute, please let us know if you give it a try!
  • Flour: these can also be made with sprouted sifted wheat or light spelt flour.
  • Sprinkles: We prefer jimmie sprinkles for this recipe, but you can change the colours to suit any celebration. If you have shaped sprinkles (like the eyeballs pictured here) add them when the cookies are just out of the oven. They may melt in the oven and lose their shape.

recipe notes

  • Be sure that the butter is room temperature for it to cream properly
  • Don’t skip the chilling step! It improves the dough texture and helps them spread properly in the oven
  • The dough and baked cookies can both be frozen
