Grain Type: Organic Rye
Grown in: Scotland, Ontario, Canada
Uses: Breads, salads, grain bowls
Taste: Robust, buttery
Our Organic Sprouted Rye goes through a slow soaking and sprouting period to enhance its taste and texture, reduce phytic acid, and make it easier to digest. Next, we carefully dry the sprouted grains to preserve these beneficial changes.
This nutritious ancient grain has a rich, buttery flavour that makes hearty and traditional baked goods. Whole or mashed sprouted rye berries add wonderful flavour and texture to breads and pairs well with seeds like pumpkin, sunflower, flax, sesame and caraway. Please note they must be rehydrated or cooked before adding to the dough. For the home miller, sprouted rye berries make a wonderful fresh flour for breads, muffins, cookies and more. Whole rye berries are a great addition to salads and grain bowls.
Rye does contain gluten, but has a lower gluten content than wheat. You can find recipes with sprouted rye berries here.
