Description

Sprouted hulless barley is subtly sweet and has a chewy texture. It is one of the first cultivated grains, dating back more than 10,000 years. It is traditionally used in soups, stews and breads, but it also makes a wonderful alternative to rice in salads and grain bowls. Swap 1:1 for unsprouted barley. Our Organic Sprouted Hulless Barley is proudly grown and sprouted in Canada.

Barley normally grows with an inedible hull, but hulless barley naturally grows without one. This means that it doesn’t require a damaging dehulling process, so we can sprout the whole grain, keeping all the fibre and protein intact. Sprouting hulless barley decreases its cook time, aids in digestibility and enhances its taste and texture. Barley contains gluten.

Cooking Instructions

Cook Time: 20-25 minutes

  1. Rinse
  2. In medium sized pot, mix 1 part Organic Sprouted Hulless Barley and 3 parts water.
  3. Bring to boil.
  4. Turn to LOW and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until desired texture is reached.
  5. Using strainer, rinse with warm water.

Storage & Shelf Life

After sprouting, we carefully dry the grains back down to their shelf stable moisture levels. This means you can store them as you would store unsprouted whole grains – in a cool, dry place.

Once you cook your sprouted grains, they should be stored in an air-tight container in the fridge.
