Cooking Guide – Sprouted Aztec Blend

Sprouted Aztec blend can be made in an Instant Pot

Our sprouted Aztec blend is a colourful mixture of brown rice, quinoa, kaniwa and amaranth. This blend was inspired by the grains traditionally grown and consumed throughout South America. This blend is extremely versatile and pairs well with fresh or roasted vegetables. It is also a great addition to soups and stews with beans and vegetables.

Below are two cooking methods you can use to prepare the sprouted aztec blend. We hope you enjoy your sprouted goodness!

Stovetop Instructions

  1. Measure off desired amount of sprouted blend.
  2. Place in strainer and rinse.
  3. Place rinsed blend in pot and add water or broth (1 part blend to 3 parts water).
  4. Bring to boil.
  5. Turn burner to low heat, cover slightly and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until desired texture is reached.
  6. Strain and rinse with warm water. This helps to remove any excess starch from the grain leaving you with a fluffy whole grain blend.

instant pot Instructions

Using the Instant Pot to cook the grain blend is a great way to get a consistently cooked blend. Cooking it with vegetable, chicken or beef broth gives it extra flavour.

  1. Measure off desired amount of Aztec blend. We recommend cooking 1/2 cup or more to for best results.
  2. Place in strainer and rinse.
  3. Move to Instant Pot and add 2 parts water/broth and 1 part sprouted blend.
  4. Set the Instant Pot to pressure cook on high (manual) for 10 minutes and let naturally release for 5 minutes. Carefully quick release any remaining pressure.
  5. Remove from Instant Pot and enjoy!
